Geoscience GIS Analyst

(Full-time)

We are seeking an innovative problem solver who will use their skills and experience in geology, GIS and data science to work with and support our team in delivering solutions to our clients. The selected candidate will work alongside our energetic team of geoscientists, engineers, data managers, GIS experts and graphic designers in a dynamic environment.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating and editing spatial data and mapping products and performing geospatial analyses
  • Preparing geoscience and engineering-related reports and documents such as maps, graphs, tables, reports, presentations, and technical illustrations
  • Generating, maintaining and improving relational geospatial databases
  • Updating and maintaining mapping standards and work processes
  • Assisting with data retrieval, digitization and building cross-sections for our geosciences team
  • Working with shapefiles and creating grids for spatial and 3D analysis of a variety of geological and engineering content such as isopachs, structure and gas/oil analysis
  • Working with geoscience and engineering-related data including:
  • -- Identifying and procuring data
  • -- Screening data and completing quality controls
  • -- Assisting with the design and development of databases, tools, workflows and templates
  • -- Manipulating and migrating large datasets
  • -- Analyzing data and identifying trends
  • -- Debugging, monitoring and troubleshooting issues with data solutions
  • Contributing to the execution of a variety of projects: consulting, industry research, and multi-client studies.

  • Proficient in data management and preparing information for internal and external audiences
  • Attention to detail, aesthetics and technical accuracy
  • Able to follow and implement quality control and quality assurance measures
  • Able to produce high quality cartographic products
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Communicate effectively, document work and meet project deadlines
  • Work well in a team atmosphere

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficient in ArcGIS and geoSCOUT (proficiency in AccuMap is an asset).
  • Working knowledge of Spotfire or equivalent database software
  • Strong presentation and design software skills
  • Well versed in MS products
  • Ideal candidate would have knowledge of basic SQL or Python

Education and Experience:

  • Possess an undergraduate degree, technical diploma or certification in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience in a similar role
  • Experience with geophysical and petrophysical datasets, particularly Western Canada data, is considered an asset
