CDL investigated available public data and seismic data from industry partners across Northeast BC, using protocols and techniques based on 35+ years of geological, hydrogeological, and engineering expertise to provide an assessment of the Granite Wash Formation for carbon sequestration in NE BC.

CDL's assessment of the Granite Wash found that 57 Mt of carbon dioxide could potentially be stored in the greater Fort St John area. Additional storage exists in Alberta as well. Highlights of the project include:
This Atlas provides information on the geology and reservoir characteristics of the deep Granite Wash saline aquifers in NE BC, assessing the feasibility of carbon dioxide storage. It provides estimated geological storage potential, fault identification, and a recommended area of focus. The Granite Wash Atlas adds another chapter to the previously published NE BC Geological Carbon Capture and Storage Atlas, which provided a comprehensive resource for industries looking to sequester CO2 emissions to meet British Columbia’s Climate Change Accountability Act Committee.
