Abstract

The helium Crown majority rights map shows helium rights holders across the WCSB. In Saskatchewan, determining helium rights is straightforward as operators acquire helium permits to explore for helium and can then convert the permit to a helium lease. In Alberta and BC, helium falls under natural gas (PNG) rights and is not broken out for tenure purposes. Only natural gas rights held under the name of known helium development companies are shown. There is likely more helium exploration in Alberta, but the land is held by brokers or numbered companies and cannot be distinguished from PNG development land. There are no known helium operators active in BC. Crown land data are supplied by geoLOGIC, but note that there is often a data lag of several weeks or more after companies merge or are acquired by another. CDL attempts to display the most up-to-date land picture possible before it is reflected in public land data, by showing the situation post-merger/acquisition based on current knowledge.
