Oil discoveries in the Beaverhill Lake Sandstone trend in the Puskwaskau area of west-central Alberta in 2005 extended the established Normandville-Girouxville East pools to the southwest. The BHLS play actually has a long history, with reports of discoveries over the last 50 years along the southeastern flank of the Peace River Arch. Up to mid-2006, about 23 pools had been defined in the BHLS trend. Other targets in the associated section include the Devonian Granite Wash, Gilwood and Slave Point. There is potential for this play to be extended further along the southeastern flanks of the Peace River Arch.
The principal objectives of this project are:
• Use core control to define lithofacies, depositional settings, and reservoir characteristics of the sandstone.
• Map gross and net sandstone trends.
• Provide an integrated report on the geological and exploration setting of the Beaverhill Lake sandstone play.
