
The study evaluates the feasibility of long-term carbon capture and storage (CCS) near the 93-P-8 in the Peace River Arch area of northeastern British Columbia. It identifies both depleted gas pools and saline aquifers within the Peace River Formation (Paddy and Cadotte members) as viable storage targets for injecting approximately 40 kilotonnes (kt) of CO₂ annually over a 20–25-year period. Five current and 12 future depleted pool candidates were identified, with effective storage capacities ranging from 1 to 19 megatonnes (Mt), while two aquifer zones showed localized P50 storage potentials of 1.5 Mt (Cutbank Cadotte) and 0.9 Mt (Swan Lake Cadotte). The study concludes that while promising opportunities exist, further site-specific dynamic modeling and economic assessment are essential to confirm injectivity, capacity, and long-term viability of the storage sites.
