
This study evaluated geological CO₂ storage opportunities in northeastern British Columbia below the base of the Montney Formation. Regional geological, reservoir, hydrodynamic and containment analyses identified prospective saline aquifers and depleted gas reservoirs with potential to meet the project’s storage objectives. The study identified several technically prospective storage opportunities within the regional Belloy–Debolt system, including laterally extensive saline aquifers and two depleted gas pools.
Phase 1 established the geological basis for several candidate areas and recommended further characterization, including refined storage resource and injectivity assessment, reservoir modelling, pressure analysis, seal evaluation and review of legacy wells, to support future site selection and development.
