The Clearwater has now emerged as the top “conventional” oil play in Canada. CDL’s 2020 study quoted a production rate of 23,500 bopd, just five years later that figure has jumped to 140,000 bopd. New and established operators continue to discover new fields and are rapidly testing enhanced recovery from existing fields. Exploration and development drilling has continued to increase with over 2500 new laterals drilled in each of the past three years.

The key attributes of the Clearwater play are shallow depth, massive oil-in-place, low-cost multilateral pad drilling and cold flow unstimulated production.

This study provides a kick-off point to explore the prolific Clearwater play.
