Using our extensive subsurface knowledge and GIS capabilities, CDL has established workflows to evaluate carbon sequestration targets and answer the key questions: Is there a storage opportunity? Is the storage capacity of the CCUS opportunity large enough to sequester the CO2 in the given time frame? Is the storage opportunity suitable?

This project determines the likelihood of petroleum migration into sub-Mississippian (Nisku/Birdbear-Leduc/Duperow) strata in west-central Saskatchewan. This study includes the characterization of probable source rocks, timing of maturation, migration routes and pathways, and hydrodynamic effects on oil accumulations. The results of this study indicate that both Nisku/Birdbear and Leduc/Duperow horizons in the detailed study area can be charged by known source rocks.
