The purpose of this report is to focus on creating a detailed stratigraphic model for the Wabamun Formation in the Mitsue Gilwood Pool.
It is designed to focus on:
• Facies interpretation based on core.
• Controls on facies distribution with regard to the structural setting.
• Hydrodynamic interpretation of trapping potential in the area.
• Developing a stratigraphic and facies model of the Wabamun Formation.
The prevailing stratigraphic model for the Wabamun, developed primarily in the context of the Peace River Arch, describes a cyclical series of ramp and shelf carbonates developed during a generally regressive phase separated by transgressive episodes. This model, in the same vicinity as the study area, lies considerably east of the Peace River Arch, along the edge of an area with significantly less structural activity referred to as the Smoky River Sub-basin.
