Numerous oil and gas resource plays are being developed through horizontal drilling in west-central Alberta. Water for hydraulic fracturing operations is a requirement for these developments. This study documents the historical water usage by resource play and operator. Shallow aquifers may provide a water source for this ongoing requirement. Paskapoo formation (Haynes member) sandstones are evaluated for water source potential. The hydrogeology of the Paskapoo formation is documented along with recommendations for specific water source developments.
