Quarry Park Energy Solutions (QPES) is a new industry facing applied energy research organization built on more than 50 years of Canadian energy research, specialized infrastructure and technical expertise.
QPES brings together specialized laboratories, experienced researchers and physical modelling capabilities that allow energy technologies to be tested under realistic reservoir and operating conditions before companies take them to the field. Capabilities include enhanced oil recovery and thermal recovery, combustion tubes and in situ combustion, high pressure physical modelling, PVT and fluid characterization, core and rock fluid analysis, oil sands extraction, tailings and polymer performance, steam generation and water chemistry, materials testing and advanced analytical capabilities.
This webinar will highlight examples of current research, introduce the scientists and technical specialists behind the work, and provide a look inside some of the unusual experimental infrastructure available at the Imperial Energy Innovation Centre. Greg Maidment will take participants inside QPES and explore the people, equipment and projects behind its growing applied research program.

Greg Maidment is a Canadian energy and carbon management leader with more than 20 years of experience spanning geophysics, subsurface development, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and applied research commercialization. In recognition of his leadership and contributions to advancing carbon management in Canada, Greg was named CCUS Leader of the Year at the 2026 Carbon Capture Canada Awards. Greg holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Australian Institute of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Geophysics.
As Executive Director of the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT)’s Quarry Park Energy Solutions, Greg leads one of Canada's most unique applied energy research organizations, transforming the historic Imperial Energy Innovation Centre into a hub for industry-driven innovation. QPES connects industry, researchers, and students through cutting-edge physical modelling and experimental research programs across optimizing enhanced oil recovery (EOR), carbon management, and emerging subsurface technologies.
