The objective of this study is to review the possible geological risks, and give a third-party assessment of the chance of success of the well Ranger 5/8 HB1, located in North Dakota, prior to spudding. The presence of reservoir was investigated by examining offset wells near the holding, and comparing them to producing wells in the study area. Three stratigraphic units were identified as potential reservoirs. These are the middle Bakken sandstone, the middle Bakken siltstone and the upper Three Forks dolomitic sandstone. Three main issues were looked at in this study: the presence of reservoir as indicated by offset wells, the presence of hydrocarbons as indicated by offset production and shows and the presence of a trap, either unconventional resource or conventional.
