This study analyzed the log and core data of 11 wells in the Basal Belly River Sand in the Strathmore area of SE Alberta as part of a research project, to determine if any log analysis techniques could be devised to reliably locate gas in the area. One main problem to overcome was the effect of invasion on the logs in wells drilled to deeper targets, and the masking of gas on resistivity and porosity logs caused by shale and heavy mineral effects. Results obtained from the analysis included numerical values for shale volume, porosity, water saturation, permeability, and lithology, as well as an assessment of the general reservoir quality, and are displayed on depth plots, crossplots, and individual well summaries.
