The Canol Formation, which is considered to be a ‘resource play’ in the Northwest Territories, extends over an area of 5,250 square miles (1,344,000 ha.) along the Mackenzie River. The purpose of this study is to perform an assessment of the Resource Play potential of the Central Mackenzie Valley focusing on the Canol, Bluefish and related formations. Investigations include: describing the stratigraphic and structural model for the region, developing a petrophysical model for the Canol and Bluefish Formations, evaluating the hydrodynamic regime and the geochemical components in the study area, as well as providing a preliminary determination of the Original Oil-in-Place.
