Using our extensive subsurface knowledge and GIS capabilities, CDL has established workflows to evaluate carbon sequestration targets and answer the key questions: Is there a storage opportunity? Is the storage capacity of the CCUS opportunity large enough to sequester the CO2 in the given time frame? Is the storage opportunity suitable?

This project provides a geomechanical assessment of a Montney horizontal well in the Deep Basin at Kakwa, AB. The results of the analysis may be used as inputs to design optimal mud weights and casing programs to minimize potential drilling problems in the area. Data are from the subject horizontal well, the vertical stratigraphic test and offset wells. Geomechanical parameters include in situ stresses, formation pressures and rock properties. Relative stress magnitudes imply that the area is in a strike-slip regime where fractures are critically stressed and likely to be hydraulically conductive.
