The focus area of this modelling study is the Grosmont aquifer in the Pelican Lake Area of northeastern Alberta, approximately located in T. 79-84, R. 17-25W4. The objective of this study is to determine the plausibility of twinning two of six existing water source wells from the study area, which are currently producing from the aquifer at rates of 3,000-5,000m3/day. The location of the model grid was chosen based on the extent of a structure map for the top of the Grosmont formation, with the model designed to simulate the 25m permeable zone within the Grosmont D unit, which lies about 10m below the Grosmont structure surface. Water flow within the unit is approximately south to north through the area, with a slight western component as the aquifer flows north of the study area around the Birch Mountains to its discharge point in the Peace River.
