The Hydrocarbon Chemistry Atlas of Western Canada (HAWC) represents the most comprehensive study of regional oil gravity and natural gas chemistry variations ever compiled for the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin (WCSB). The project synthesizes a wealth of publicly available information on formation fluids, with the goal of producing a geochemical atlas of natural gas and oil compositions of the WCSB. HAWC includes maps of oil gravity, % wet gas, and the common acid gases of carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulphide (H2S), or nitrogen (N2) in horizons where H2S could not be mapped. The Hydrocarbon Chemistry Atlas will assist exploration and development activities by identifying trends and regions with high concentrations of acid gases, low-gravity oils, and wet gas / natural gas liquids.
