The objective of this study is to define the hydrogeology and hydrothermics of the Mannville Group within the Elnora area, focussing on the following:

• Upper Mannville coals, definition of the Deep Basin Edge.
• Absolute pressure distribution within the Mannville.
• Mannville geothermal gradients and temperature regime.

Based on the probable relationship between the Upper Mannville coals and the Glauconitic/Lower Mannville units, the assumption can be made that Upper Mannville coals should be dry, where the units below are dry. Thus, caution should be exercised when selecting locations targeting the Upper Mannville coals, as they may be connected to underlying wet sands in some instances. Results from this study suggest that if the Mikwan coals are underlain by a fining-upward Glauconitic channel sequence or separated from underlying basal Mannville "Ellerslie" sands by a competent shale sequence, the coals may be dry.
