The Mantario and Marengo oil pools in SW Saskatchewan are believed to contain in excess of 100 million barrels of oil-in-place. This study is an integrated geologic and hydrogeological evaluation conducted to place the play in a regional stratigraphic context and provide future exploration leads. On the basis of the regional framework, the Mantario-Marengo reservoir sands have been placed into one of the three defined Glauconite-age transgressive parasequences.
The aims of this study are to:
• Develop a regional stratigraphic framework.
• Identify formations present and map their distribution.
• Use sequence stratigraphy to delineate and map separate cycles in the Lower Mannville and Glauconitic Formations
• Use the geologic history and distribution of the various units to predict the most likely areas for reservoir development in the Glauconitic Formation.
