The Mission Canyon subcrop play within the study area comprise stratigraphic, structural, and "buried hills" traps. The current eastern margin of the play is roughly defined by the Ralph, Griffin, Hartaven, and North Handsworth pools. The perceived degradation of oil quality, the presence of relatively fresher formation waters and the unknown trapping potential of structural features due to the presence of a dynamic fluid flow field in conjunction with relatively poor drilling density have resulted in an inadequate evaluation of the play trends potential. The purpose of this study is to characterize the regional hydrodynamic and hydrochemical framework of the area, and evaluate the effect of hydrodynamics on the distribution of oil at a regional and local level.
