The Lower Triassic Montney Formation of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin was deposited in a structurally active basin, influenced by west coast aridity, easterly winds and storm-dominated shoreface conditions. The product of these paleogeographic and structural conditions is a complex siliciclastic and locally carbonate reservoir system dominated by relatively well-sorted dolomitic siltstones and very fine-grained sandstones. A regional framework for Montney deposition was developed by Dr. Graham Davies. This framework, illustrated by a grid of cross-sections and detailed core descriptions, will assist in defining Montney reservoir trends.
