Wabamun plays in the Berland River area include a hydrothermal dolomite play and a high-pressure, fractured limestone play. This study has been conducted primarily to place the Wabamun Formation within a regional hydrodynamic and hydrochemical framework. The study area occurs within the Deep Basin portion of West-Central Alberta, between T. 49-69, R. 16W5-R6W6.

Specific objectives of the projects were to:

a. Determine the typical height of gas columns developed within the Wabamun.
b. Determine if reservoir development within the Wabamun is hydraulically connected to the underlying Devonian carbonate complexes (i.e., the Winterburn to Beaverhill Lake section).
c. Determine the significance of, or lack of, vertical connection through the upper Devonian section to Wabamun gas emplacement.
d. Determine the lateral hydraulic continuity of existing Wabamun gas pools.
e. Map the distribution of Wabamun hydrocarbons, their compositional variations and controls.
f. Identify potential exploration fairways and prospect leads.

In addition, the hydrodynamic portion of the Wabamun study has been conducted to help define gross hydrodynamic trends such as, fluid-flow directions, fluid distribution, formation pressure distribution, and gross hydraulic continuity.
